Who is Satphone.co.uk?
Satphone.co.uk is a London based satellite communications specialist, supplying phones, terminals, trackers and airtime since 1998. We sell, rent and support satellite equipment and airtime, and we are a trading name of Callmonitor Limited.
Which satellite networks do you supply?
Iridium, Inmarsat, Thuraya and Globalstar. We are accredited resellers for all four and are not owned by any operator, so we recommend a network based on where you will use it.
Which network should I choose?
Choose on coverage first. Iridium covers the whole globe, including the poles. Inmarsat covers roughly 76°N to 76°S, with no polar coverage. Thuraya covers Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia. Globalstar covers the Americas, Europe, parts of Africa, Asia and Australia. Above 76°N or below 76°S, only Iridium is reliably useful.
Does a satellite phone work indoors?
Not reliably. A satellite phone needs a direct line of sight from its antenna to the satellite, so it will not work inside buildings or vehicles unless used with an external antenna. Trees, hills and tall buildings can also block the signal: step outside into a clear view of the sky before making a call.
Can I rent a satellite phone instead of buying one?
Yes. If you only need a satellite phone for a single trip, rental almost always beats buying. We rent the Iridium Extreme and IsatPhone 2, with Starlink Mini also available, and rentals have a minimum charge of 7 days.
