Telemetry beyond
the cell network.
Two-way satellite data links for machines, sensors and infrastructure operating outside cellular coverage — from a 340-byte position report over Iridium Short Burst Data to 100 KB message payloads over Iridium Messaging Transport and IP links up to 464 kbps.
IS THIS PAGE FOR YOU?
You are in the right place if you need data back from unattended equipment beyond mobile coverage — pipelines, buoys, weather and hydrology stations, generators, reclosers, agricultural plant, remote logistics.
If you need internet access or voice for people rather than machines, start at Satellite equipment → or another solution on this page's tabs.
▸ THE BRIEF
Match the link to the message profile.
Satellite IoT is not one service. It splits into message-based transports — a modem wakes, transmits a discrete packet, and sleeps on a multi-year battery — and IP-based links that behave like a slow, always-available network connection for SCADA, cameras and firmware distribution.
The engineering questions decide the service: payload size per report (bytes or kilobytes), reporting interval, alert latency, available power, and whether the asset sits inside a geostationary footprint or needs the pole-to-pole coverage of Iridium's low-earth-orbit constellation.
MESSAGE-BASED · SBD
Short Burst Data
Two-way packets of up to 340 bytes mobile-originated and 270 bytes mobile-terminated over Iridium — the established transport for position reports, sensor readings and alerts on minimal power.

Midband IP data
A native IP link at 22 kbps up and 88 kbps down on the same Iridium network — for log files, image snapshots, SCADA polling and remote configuration where messaging alone is not enough.

Broadband M2M
Geostationary IP up to 464 kbps over Inmarsat for fixed infrastructure inside the footprint — higher-bandwidth telemetry, backhaul and dual-mode satellite/cellular installations.

▸ NEW SERVICE
Iridium Messaging Transport (IMT)NEW
IMT is Iridium's cloud-native successor to SBD: message payloads from 1 byte up to 100 KB, organised into publish/subscribe topics and delivered straight into your cloud environment through Iridium CloudConnect — the same event-driven pattern as terrestrial IoT stacks.
The dedicated module is the surface-mount Iridium Certus 9704; Iridium quotes an 83% reduction in idle power draw against the 9603 SBD generation. The Certus 9770 carries IMT alongside its Certus 100 IP capability.
Bare 9704 modules are developed under Iridium partner and certification programmes rather than sold off the shelf — a development kit exists for evaluation. Ready-built units based on the same modules are also available for direct integration with your application, with no board-level development required. Speak to our specialists to find out which route is best for you — bare module, development kit or ready-built unit — and we will map it with you.

▸ HOW WE SHAPE A DEPLOYMENT
Profiled, provisioned, supported.
01
Profile the message
Payload size, reporting interval, alert latency, power budget and operating latitudes — the five numbers that select the service.
02
Select module and plan
A written proposal matching modem, network and a pooled airtime plan to that profile, with the integration level stated plainly.
03
Provision and integrate
SIMs registered and plans activated before dispatch; data routed into your platform via SBD feeds, APIs or email delivery.
04
Support in service
One London based team for airtime, faults and consolidated billing across the life of the deployment.
What is the asset, where is it, how many bytes does it report, and how often? Answer those four questions and our specialists can shape the deployment with you.
