Sat email

Sat email is a service that offers a more streamlined and efficient E-Mail system, allowing you to use your satellite phone for even more affordable data transfer. The Sat email system uses Microsoft Outlook as the front-end for fast and smooth communication, which can reduce data costs by as much as 85% against other satellite systems.

Sat email is designed for use with Iridium, Thuraya, Globalstar, Inmarsat A, B, B-HSD, M, Mini-M, M4, Fleet as well as landlines, mobile phones and ISDN lines.

The software has been designed to overcome two problems associated with email transmission by working efficiently over slow and expensive lines, reducing the time spent on line by making more efficient use of connection time and thus reducing costs.

Features include:
• Full Duplex transmission, which means simultaneous send and receive of messages to reduce time spent online.
• Automatic compression using Zip technology. The compression ratio is dependant upon file type but can be over 90% in some cases.
• Reduced modem synchronisation time and handshake procedures so that with many systems modem connections in less than 10 seconds are now possible.
• Restart from point of interruption so that, if cut off half way through, there is no need to start from the beginning again.
• Delivery, non-delivery, read and unread are standard features.

Costs

Tariff Option 1 - cost by data usage
Cost of US$0.50 per Kilobyte of uncompressed data sent from the remote user through the sat email hub. There is no cost for data received from the hub to the remote user.
This rate is subject to a maximum cost of US$130 per month, and a minimum charge of US$25 per month.

Tariff Option 2 - flat fee
For five or more users a flat rate tariff from US$95 per user per month. Please call for more details.

Please note that satellite telephones require a direct line of sight from the antenna to the satellite.
Therefore, phones do not work inside buildings or vehicles unless used with an external antenna. Service in outdoor locations with trees, hills, mountains, buildings or other similar structures or geographical features may impair or prevent the use of satellite communication equipment.
